Dr. Redmond P. Burke, prominent pediatric congenital heart surgeon, was the first surgeon in the world to perform a thoracic duct ligation and first endoscopic vascular ring division. Additionally, Dr. Burke was the first surgeon in the United States to repair the patent ductus arteriosus.
Dr. Burke founded the Congenital Heart Institute at the Arnold Palmer Hospital and also at the Miami ChildrenÕs Hospital. He continues to pioneer treatments for heart defects in children.
